 Meta-Movie Matters

 with Jacqueline Marie

A meta-movie is a story, told on the silver screen, that embodies the true spirit of life, a movie with a vital message so convincingly portrayed it brings a ray of light to the viewer's mind. A meta-movie remains in the heart, long after the screen goes dark.

Call To Action - Support Spiritual Cinema

“We are the ones we’ve been waiting for!” So speaks Neale Donald Walsch, best-selling author in “Conversations with God”, premiering this month in its film version. This quote encapsulates the purpose of Neale’s cross-country October tour, in which he was joined by the movie’s director-producer, Stephen Simon. A successful Hollywood producer, Simon, is also the creator of Spiritual Cinema Circle, (which has financed this marvelous message movie.).

It’s exciting to note that advance viewings of the film at spiritual centers throughout North America have been met with acclaim and high attendance. I, myself, traveled five hours to view a sneak peak preview. It was well worth the effort. So much so, I’m joining its producer’s clarion call, by urging all Spirit Side readers to seek out and see “Conversations with God” for a uniquely soulful night at the movies.

Fans of Walsch’s books might well wonder, how do you film a conversation with God? So as not to spoil your first viewing of this landmark production, I’ll just respond as Walsch himself did at last weekend’s debut screening. This is a movie about Everyman’s Dark Night of the Soul - including, of course, God’s illuminating answer! The film illuminates audiences on the surprising circumstance of Neal's spiritual awakening after a period of homeless anguish and poverty.

Much credit goes to actor, Henry Czerny, for his gripping portrayal of the author’s tumultuous path and Eric DelaBarre, the film’s screenwriter for his discerning adaption of Walsch’s soul stirring journey from darkness into light. The script shines even more for its dazzling array of God’s own memorable quotes sprinkled throughout - from refreshing remarks like “You’ve got Me all wrong . . . you are your own rule-maker”, to inspiring guidance, like “Worry is the activity of a mind that does not understand its connection to me”. Finally, when Neale is transformed (by transcribing these conversations) from homeless and destitute to a landing a 1.5 million dollar book deal, we are reminded: “If you want to create abundance for yourself, create it for someone else”. Even then, Neale apparently signed with the publisher only after a fitting response to his query:“Why do you want to publish this?” “Because I believe it can change the world!” she stated. The “Conversations with God” book series have since achieved international book acclaim.

Now it’s up to us meta-movie fans to support this screen version to do the same. Thanks to Goldwyn productions, the film can be found in most major US cities this first week of November. Don’t miss this rare window of opportunity. Send a message to Hollywood that it’s trendy and profitable to produce positive cinema! Make space in your calendar and flock (with friends and family in tow)) for this extraordinary “Conversations with God” nationwide premiere. You’re sure to leave the theatre feeling inspired. Plus your ticket purchase will send a message to Hollywood - that movie goers really do want more spiritually uplifting entertainment.

Footnote: This film's venues will be based on audience demand. Please forward this review to all like-minded friends so they catch it while it's available.
