Through Meditation Peace Is Possible
by Sant Rajinder Singh Ji
Let us consider whether we wish to find answers to the mysteries of life and finally find eternal peace. If so, the offer to learn meditation is available. We have an opportunity to commit ourselves to a study in which we not only gain knowledge as if we were going to college, but we can have firsthand experience for ourselves of the Light and Sound within us. By finding the Light and Sound, we can travel on that current back to God.
This method of meditation is a simple one that does not require any difficult postures or rigid positions. The method is one in which we sit comfortably in a relaxed state. We close our eyes and concentrate our attention at the single or third eye, a point located between and behind the two eyebrows. The spiritual Master gives us five charged Names of God to repeat that have several functions. One, they have the power to withdraw our soul to the eye-focus so we can see the inner Light. Two, they help keep the mind engaged so that thoughts do not distract us from focusing within. Three, they have a protective power so that we can safely take the inner journey.
Once we are absorbed in the Light, we then begin to rise above body-consciousness. There, we are met by the radiant form of our spiritual guide who takes us on the inner journey. The guide knows the way within and accompanies us through the astral, causal, and supracausal regions until taking us to Sach Khand where his work is complete. He leads us back to the Lord.
Today there are over six hundred thousand people practicing the Sant Mat meditation on the inner Light and Sound. It is a great blessing that we can transcend body-consciousness and see for ourselves that there is no death. What greater peace is there? What greater gift can we give to ourselves than inner peace? What a relief it is to solve the mystery of life and know for certain that our soul lives after the demise of our body.
If each person found inner peace it would not be long before outer peace would prevail. Every person who finds inner peace provides the world with one more person who lives peacefully. By learning meditation, peace in the heart, peace in the soul, and peace in the world are possible.
Instructions for Jyoti Meditation
(Meditation on the Inner light)
To meditate, find a quiet spot and sit in any pose that is comfortable. Meditation is a process whereby we withdraw our attention from the outer world and concentrate it at the seat of the soul. We should close our eyes gently and look straight ahead, focusing our attention in the middle of the darkness lying in front of us. That which sees the darkness is not our physical eyes, but is the third or single eye located between and behind the eyebrows. Continue to gaze into the middle of whatever lies in front, and repeat silently and mentally any name of God. This repetition will keep the mind occupied and prevent it from wandering. With time we will experience the Light of God. When Light or inner vistas appear, keep the attention focused. As we meditate, we will begin to experience the reservoir of peace within, and we will be able to spread this peace to others.
Sant Rajinder Singh Ji Maharaj, an international spiritual leader and Master of meditation, affirms the transcendent oneness at the heart of all religions, emphasizing prayer and meditation as building blocks for achieving peace. For more information visit our website at www.sos.org.
